Matthias Schmidt-Rosen

Principal Country Manager, Middle East at KfW

Matthias Schmidt-Rosen has a comprehensive work experience, starting as a Research Assistant at the International Trade Centre in 2004. Matthias later worked as an Economist for the Ministry of Finance in Namibia and as a Research Associate at the Institute for Public Policy Research. From 2009, they served as an Economist at The World Bank before transitioning to roles at KfW, including Director of the KfW Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, they were a Senior Policy Advisor for Climate Finance at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In 2021, they founded AktionKlima and became the Principal Country Manager for the Middle East at KfW.

Matthias Schmidt-Rosen completed a BSc in Economics & Politics from the University of Southampton in 2004, followed by an MSc in Economics for Development from the University of Oxford in 2006. Matthias then pursued a PhD in Economics at the University of Cape Town, which they completed in 2012. In 2016, they obtained a certification as an expert in Climate & Renewable Energy Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
