Software Engineering Manager, Content Instructional Engineering

Engineering · Full-time · CA, United States

Job description

About Kiddom Kiddom is a groundbreaking educational platform that promotes student equity and growth by uniting high-quality instructional materials with dynamic digital learning. Through unparalleled curriculum management functionality, Kiddom empowers schools and districts to take ownership of their curriculum – resulting in learning experiences tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of local communities. Kiddom’s high-quality curriculum is layered with robust teacher and leader data insights to drive the continuous improvement of instructional decisions, school/district programming, and professional learning.

We are a passionate, collaborative team focused on building transformative education technology and making a measurable impact in K-12 education. We strive to create an inclusive, positive team culture where everyone is respected and valued for everything they bring to Kiddom, not just what they produce.

About the Team Kiddom has a strong focus on high quality instructional materials. The Content Instructional Engineering team works with content authors and partners to ingest and optimize content within the Kiddom platform. The team of ingestion engineers and instructional designers (IDs) work together to automate ingestion of new curricula. Using a combination of ingestion tools and AI, engineers pull content from a variety of formats into a standardized Kiddom database, coordinating closely with instructional designers to get the best technical ingestion. Once in the platform, the IDs are able to further tweak and optimize the content for the most interactive and engaging teacher and student experience.

About the Role We're looking for a thoughtful and strategic engineering leader to help us to further automate and refine our engineering processes across ingestion and optimization tooling. As we continue to scale our needs for quality curricula, we need to also scale and refine our team capabilities through automation, making sure we have a flexible, repeatable, and maintainable ingestion engine.  As a manager on the engineering team, you’ll work closely with our VP of Engineering to execute on product and engineering projects, build out and support your engineering team, and help define Kiddom Engineering as we scale in these coming years.

About You You have the engineering skills, empathy, and integrity needed to evaluate and guide the career paths of technically-astute engineers. You are kind, supportive of others, and passionate about helping others develop as software engineers, increasing your impact through their growth. You enjoy the challenge of balancing speed of execution with quality while building a product users love and willing to dive into the code when necessary. You are as enthusiastic about recruiting and building a team as you are about solving challenging technical problems.

You will:

  • Manage a team of full-stack engineers and instructional designers
  • Collaborate with the team's product managers, designers, and other engineers to plan and execute product and engineering roadmaps
  • Coach and mentor engineers for individual impact, balance, growth, and leadership
  • Thoughtfully craft the team's responsibilities, goals, and processes to deliver
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders across the organization
  • Build a user-friendly experience, balancing pace with quality

You have:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience, with 3+ years of management
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product management, design, and other engineering teams
  • The intelligence, empathy, integrity, and the technical chops required to quickly earn the trust of a technically astute team
  • Comfort with ambiguity; you enjoy figuring out what needs to be done—and then doing it
