As COO, Renate will provide strategic, operational, and tactical leadership to ensure that KHSC continues on its journey of sustainable performance, growth, and fiscal accountability. Her operational team will include the Information Management; Finance, and Planning as well as Diagnostic Imaging, Clinical Labs and Patient Records/Registration and Flow.
A recognized advocate of leadership and communication skills coaching with more than 30 years of senior healthcare leadership experience, Renate has held transformational roles such as Vice President of Clinical Programs at the Ottawa Hospital and Chief Transition Officer in the St. Michael’s Hospital/Wellesley Central Hospital merger. She has also worked in the McMaster University Health Sciences Leadership & Management Program and at the University of Toronto in various teaching roles. Her clinical (including acute care, rehab, lab services, consulting & pharmaceutical industry) and leadership experience is complemented by ten years as a management consultant/speaker, helping health care leaders improve communication skills, team engagement, and organizational performance.
Renate is a registered nurse with a doctorate in healthcare administration (DHA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rotman School of Management. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Certified Health Executive (CHE) with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL). Her research interests, as well as her published books and articles, are in the fields of evidence-based leadership & management, employee/physician engagement, and value-based health care.
