Michael Cortez

Michael Cortez is the Regional Compliance Manager for KIPP Philadelphia’s Regional Office. He is responsible for making sure KIPP school sites have accurate data to report to the School District of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania’s Department of Education. Swing by his desk, you’ll probably find him working on a spreadsheet. He enjoys using macros to streamline his workbooks and appreciates conditional formatting done the right way.

Prior to joining KIPP, Michael served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member during its 50th year anniversary at New York Cares. In this role, he met and worked with school leaders and volunteers across six NYC public school sites. Later he went on to join Coney Island Prep and its Middle School Operations team as well as Pan American Academy up in North Philly. He enjoys building connections with students, staff and parents of each school.

Michael graduated from John Jay’s College of Criminal Justice, CUNY in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science. He is from New York City and always roots for the NY Yankees. Likes include Wawa coffee, finding great Burger or Mexican food spots, and online shopping.
