John Betancourt

Head of AI & Robotics at Kiwibot

John Betancourt has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and industries.

John is currently the Head of AI & Robotics at Kiwibot, where they work with the leadership team to set priorities and goals for the AI&Robotics team management. John also manages strategic vendor and technology partner relationships and allocates IT resources.

Prior to this, they worked as an AI & Robotics Engineer at Kiwibot, where they were responsible for navigation of mobile robots, local path planning, and obstacle avoidance. John developed algorithms for calibration, depth estimation, image orthomosaic, and stitching, as well as machine learning algorithms for object detection and segmentation.

Before joining Kiwibot, John worked as an AI Software Engineer at Ci2, where they developed software for a security, recording, and video editing program using machine learning and computer vision techniques.

John also gained research experience as a Research Assistant at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where they worked on 3D image processing methods and an integrated solution for underwater mapping and monitoring.

John was a founding member of Kraken Systems, where they designed and constructed systems for the supervision of large water sources.

John also worked as an AI Software Engineer at Sightek, where they developed software tools for measuring and supervising the quality of surgical devices in medical manufacturing industries.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Junior Estimator at SkyBuilders USA, LLC, where they were responsible for quotes and estimation in construction projects.

John also worked as an Associate Graphic Designer at SOS Mantenimiento vial, where they handled graphic design, signage projects, and road maintenance.

Additionally, John served as a Mentor at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

John Betancourt received their Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2017. John then pursued a Master's degree in Electronic, Robotic, and Mechatronic Engineering from the same university, which they completed in 2018. In 2018-2019, John enrolled in Udacity to study as a self-driving car engineer.
