Stephen Friberg

Stephen Friberg is an accomplished optical scientist and engineer with extensive experience in the semiconductor and optical industries. Currently serving as a Senior Optical Scientist and Senior System Engineer at KLA-Tencor since 2007, Stephen has led efforts in optical damage and photo-contamination prevention for advanced laser-based wafer inspection systems, successfully implementing controls that have saved over $15 million in optics replacement and warranty costs. Prior to KLA-Tencor, Stephen was a Senior Optical Engineer at Cymer, managing critical DUV excimer laser optical systems, and previously founded Lambda Control, Inc., where significant funding was raised, leading to the development of a patented wavelength measurement device. Stephen holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Physics from the University of Rochester.
