Stephen Pilling is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Head of the Department of Clinical, Education and Health Psychology at University College London. He has considerable expertise in evidence based medicine and is a Director of the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health which has produced over 30 clinical practices guidelines in mental health for NICE.
He has also supported the development and implementation of clinical guidelines in a wide range of international health care systems. He has served in a number of advisory roles to the English NHS including the development of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme, the development of a National Mental Health Research programme for England and most recently the development of the Community Mental Health Framework which underpins the mental health component of the NHS Long-Term Plan. He has been a principal investigator on a number of RCTs of complex interventions in mental health in the areas of depression, substance misuse and crisis care which have been funded by the MRC and NIHR. He has an honorary clinical appointment with Camden and Islington Foundation Trust.
