Luke Hayden

Lead Data Scientist at Kobalt Music

Luke Hayden has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Luke began their career as a Research Assistant at the Molecular Genetics Lab in University College Dublin in 2009, where they focused on examining the role of genomic imprinting in the MAS1 gene in canines. In 2009, they also started their PhD at the National University of Ireland, Galway, conducting molecular developmental studies on the Wnt genes in a non-model organism. During their PhD, they utilized techniques such as molecular cloning, in situ hybridization, histology, and microscopy.

After completing their PhD in 2013, Hayden worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratoire de Biologie et Modélisation de la Cellule, where they studied the developmental basis for variation in mouse tooth shape. Their work involved developing a novel statistical method to measure developmental variation and optimizing delicate culture experiments to manipulate developing teeth in tissue culture. Luke primarily used bioinformatic analysis using R, in situ hybridization, and organotypic tissue culture techniques during this role.

In 2016, Hayden joined the Institute of Functional Genomics, Lyon (IGFL) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. Here, they focused on studying the link between aging and regeneration in an amphipod crustacean. Luke developed a method for measuring the molecular age of limb tissue using the expression of marker genes and created new statistical methods to analyze Nanostring data. This required designing a custom Nanostring codeset.

Hayden then transitioned into the field of data science and worked as a Data Science Instructor at DataCamp in 2019. In this role, they were responsible for writing an online course that taught learners fundamental statistical concepts and Python programming skills using an interactive e-learning approach. Luke created learning materials, including video lectures, interactive coding challenges, and online questionnaires.

In 2020, Hayden joined Conjura as a Senior Data Scientist and later transitioned to the role of Lead Data Scientist. At Conjura, they scoped, built, and validated machine learning models for clients and also researched and developed new use cases. Luke focused on improving data science processes, model monitoring, and MLOps capabilities within the company.

Most recently, in 2022, Hayden started working at Kobalt Music as a Lead Data Scientist. Further information about this role is not provided.

Luke Hayden holds a Bachelor's degree in Zoology/Animal Biology from University College Dublin, having completed their studies from 2005 to 2009. Luke then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in the same field from the University of Galway, attending from 2009 to 2013.
