Kiel has been in exploration geochemistry/geology for over 17 years with Newmont Corporation. He has worked on projects on 6 continents, in many ore systems for Au-Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn, including porphyry, high and low sulfidation epithermal, orogenic, skarn, carlin-type, and VMS.
During his career, he has been responsible for geochemistry leadership on in-mine, brownfields, greenfields, and generative exploration projects. He conducted internal and external research and development of new and innovative geochemical techniques to optimize the potential of exploration success. He was part of the team that developed Newmont’s proprietary Deep Sensing Geochemistry, DSG, technology, designed to explore under post-mineral cover. He also provided 2-week exploration geochemistry courses to company geologists to raise the baseline knowledge of geologists throughout the company. His graduate work involved the lithogeochemical characterization of Hope Bay greenstone belt-bounding granitoids in Nunavut, Canada.
Kiel holds an M.Sc. in Mineral Exploration from Laurentian University and a B.Sc. in Geology from Colorado State University.
