Borzu Sabahi

Co-editor-in-chief Of Brill Research Perspective On International Investment Law & Arbitration at Brill

Borzu Sabahi began their work experience in 2005 at Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, where they served as Counsel. In this role, they represented companies and individuals in international investment treaty and commercial arbitration matters. Borzu also co-authored an expert opinion in a DR-CAFTA arbitration case. In 2006, they took on the position of Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center. In this role, they provided instruction in various subjects related to law. Two years later, Sabahi joined the International Law Institute as the Co-Director of the International Investment Law Center. In this position, they supervised training programs on international investment law and taught sessions on various topics. Additionally, they advised on the design of a training program for government officials from 20 APEC economies. In 2011, Sabahi became a Partner at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, where they represented state parties in arbitrations. Borzu represented parties in various cases, including ones involving Uzbekistan and an ASEAN nation. Sabahi also held the position of Co-Editor-in-Chief of Brill Research Perspective on International Investment Law & Arbitration at Brill starting in 2015. Finally, they became a Lecturer in Law at Columbia Law School in 2014, where they taught for a year.

Borzu Sabahi has an extensive education history in the field of law. In 1993, they completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Judicial Law from the University of Tehran. Borzu then pursued further education and in 2000, earned a Master of Arts degree in Public International Law from the same university.

In 1998, they attended the prestigious Hague Academy of International Law and obtained a Certificate in the Summer Course on Public International Law. This experience further enhanced their understanding of international law.

Continuing their educational journey, Sabahi enrolled in Georgetown University Law Center in 2001 and completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in International Legal Studies in 2002. This degree provided him with specialized knowledge in international law.

Sabahi's pursuit of knowledge in international law did not stop there. In 2003, they obtained a Certificate in the Procurement of Consulting Services from the International Law Institute in Washington DC. This certificate signifies their expertise in acquiring consulting services within the legal domain.

Building on their prior achievements, Sabahi attended the Hague Academy of International Law's Center for Studies in 2004. Here, they obtained a Certificate in New Aspects of International Investment Law, further deepening their expertise in this field.

In the same year, Sabahi began their Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) program at Georgetown University Law Center, specializing in International Investment Law and Arbitration. Borzu excelled in their studies and graduated with distinction in 2009, earning their Doctor of Juridical Science degree.

Throughout their educational journey, Borzu Sabahi has consistently focused on expanding their knowledge and expertise in international law, particularly in the fields of investment law and arbitration.
