Yoga Instructor at Kripalu

Carly Chaapel began their work experience as an Agriculture Science Teacher at Salem County Career and Technical High School in September 2014. In this role, they taught courses in environmental, animal, and food sciences, as well as garden management, food systems, and farm-to-table cooking. Carly also advised the Garden Club in their activities.

In August 2013, Carly became a FoodCorps Service Member at FoodCorps. During their time there, they designed and taught classes on real food education from Pre-K through grade 12 in public Salem County schools. Carly also coordinated efforts in schoolyard garden design and implementation, and led farm-to-cafeteria initiatives to connect students with healthy, local foods. Carly'srole at FoodCorps concluded in July 2014.

Carly then worked as an Integrated Pest Management Technician at Rutgers Cooperative Extension from May 2009 to August 2011. Carly'sresponsibilities included monitoring insect, disease, and weed levels in experimental fruit fields, using GIS technology for field mapping, taking soil samples, and managing data. Carly also had the significant achievement of identifying the first spotted wing drosophila in the Northeastern USA during their time there.

In September 2017, Carly became a Yoga Instructor at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. In this role, they taught all-levels Kripalu Yoga at independent studios and led professional development opportunities for public school teachers and staff. Carly is certified as a 200-hour Yoga Teacher and Kripalu Yoga in Schools by the Kripalu School of Yoga.

Carly Chaapel has a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Food Systems from Prescott College, which they obtained from 2019 to 2021. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies at Eckerd College, where they studied from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, Carly briefly attended the University of Otago in 2011. In terms of certifications, they have obtained a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, specializing in Kripalu Yoga in Schools. Carly also holds New Jersey CTE Teaching Certificates in Agriculture and Environmental Service Systems, issued by the NJ Department of Education.
