Petro Julkunen

Petro Julkunen has extensive work experience in the field of medical physics and biomedical engineering. Petro started their career in 2004 at Kuopio University Hospital, where they held various roles including Chief Physicist, Assistant Chief Physicist, and Medical Physicist. During their time there, they led medical physicist training and education, directed medical physics research, and specialized in Clinical Neurophysiology and Radiology.

In 2009, Julkunen joined the University of Eastern Finland as a Professor of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. Petro was also the leader of the Neuromodulation Research Group and co-leader of the Biophysics of Bone and Cartilage Research Group. Petro served as the principal investigator in several research projects and clinical trials.

In addition to their academic role, Julkunen has worked in various other positions including as an Auditor at Labquality, Vice Chairman of the Advisory Committee in Radiation Safety at STUK, and Council Member at Tekniikan akateemiset TEK. Petro also founded their own company, Tmi Petro Julkunen, where they served as a Chief Physicist, Radiation Safety Expert, Radiation Safety Manager, and Webmaster.

Julkunen has been involved in several boards and associations, including serving as Chairman of the Board at Sataman Sydän Oy, a medical imaging company, and Chairman of the Board at Kuntatekniikan akateemiset ry, an organization that advocates for the interests of technical personnel in the municipal sector. Petro has also been a member of the Board at Karelia Magneetti and Tekniikka ja Terveys KTN ry Kuopio.

Petro Julkunen's education history is as follows:

- From 2004 to 2009, they attended the University of Eastern Finland, where they obtained a degree in Medical Physics, specializing as a Medical Physicist (Sairaalafyysikko).

- During the same period, from 2004 to 2008, they pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Eastern Finland in the field of Medical Physics.

- From 2001 to 2004, they studied at Tampere University of Technology, focusing on Biomedical Engineering, Signal Processing, and Biomaterial Technology. Petro graduated with a Master of Science in Engineering (M.Sc.).

- In 1999 and 2000, they briefly attended LUT University, where they studied Chemical Engineering.

- In 2019, Petro Julkunen pursued Bachelor level studies in Business and Management at the University of Eastern Finland, and they are currently enrolled.
