Gary Thomas has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades in various roles within the technology industry. Gary started their career as a Lead Developer at Aviva, where they were responsible for designing and developing e-commerce applications and supervising the development team. After that, they joined Gen-i as a Senior Developer, leading the design and development of a multi-user J2EE application for the Department of Internal Affairs.
Gary then worked as a Solution Architect at Infinity Solutions, where they provided consultancy services in architecture, development, and JEE. Gary also served as the practice lead for Solution Architecture, coordinating the work of a diverse team across various clients. Following this, they worked at The National Bank as a Development Team Lead, managing a team of developers working on Payment System applications.
After their time at The National Bank, Gary joined HP as a Solution Architect, where they provided technical leadership for J2EE applications and guided architectural, design, and coding decisions. Gary also played a key role in pre-sales activities and provided consultancy services for Solutions Architecture for government and corporate clients.
Gary then joined ANZ as a Lead Solution Designer, where they provided technical leadership for solution delivery teams and facilitated the adoption of agile methodology. Gary also worked as a Java Consultant and Technical Lead, leading projects such as porting applications from Weblogic to IBM WebSphere and implementing a Client Credit Management tool using Spring and other Java libraries.
At Allianz Australia Limited, Gary worked as a Development Team Lead, managing a team of developers and contributing to application design and standards. Gary also played a crucial role in building services based on the ACORD insurance standards. Following this, they worked as a Solutions Architect at VeriFone, focusing on the Payment as a Service platform and designing a regional Payment Gateway.
Gary's most recent role was as the Head of Technology APAC at Lab49, where they led the architecture and engineering consulting practice, developed the Lab49 architecture framework, and established a high-performing team across architecture and engineering. Gary was responsible for delivering technical strategy and architecture for major financial services clients.

Gary Thomas has obtained an HND in Computer Studies with a focus on Computer Software Engineering from Staffordshire University. In addition to their degree, they have acquired various certifications throughout their career. These certifications include "Concurrency in Go" and "Programming with Google Go Specialization" from Coursera, obtained in March 2022. Gary also holds a certification in "M101JS: MongoDB for Node.js Developers" from 10gen, obtained in September 2013. Gary has completed a certification in "Project Management" from GEC Management College in 1996. Furthermore, they have expressed interest in various certifications, such as "Functions, Methods, and Interfaces in Go" from Coursera, "Genesys Certified Developer" from Genesys, "Getting Started with Go" from Coursera, "Professional Scrum Master" from scrum.org, and "Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform" from Sun Systems; however, it is unknown whether they have obtained these certifications or the exact dates of completion.
