Edward Simpson

Edward Simpson serves as the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Lancaster University. Previously, Edward held the position of Head of the College of Law, Anthropology and Politics at SOAS University of London from 2014 to 2023, overseeing multiple academic units and successfully managing a £30 million budget while implementing a new college structure. As a Professor of Social Anthropology, Edward led significant initiatives such as financial turnaround, curriculum reform, and staff development, achieving high student satisfaction scores and notable improvements in league tables. Edward also directed the SOAS South Asia Institute, focusing on climate change and infrastructure research while fostering partnerships with governmental and educational institutions in South Asia. Edward's academic credentials include a PhD in Anthropology from The London School of Economics and Political Science and a B.Soc.Sci in Social Anthropology from The University of Manchester.
