Stephen Bulman

Stephen Bulman currently serves as the Head of Academic Standards & Quality at Lancaster University, a position held since May 2020, where focus is on quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Previous roles include Head of Higher Education Quality at Blackburn College from April 2018 to May 2020, and Director at Capplestone Gate Consulting Ltd, providing consultancy to higher education institutions. Stephen’s experience also encompasses strategic development consulting at Southampton Solent University, interim leadership roles in journalism programs, and positions at The Higher Education Academy and the University of Cumbria. Notably, leadership roles at Leeds Trinity University and Newman University demonstrate Stephen's extensive management experience in academic settings, having led teams of up to 100 academics and overseen considerable student populations. Stephen holds a PhD in West African Studies and a B.A. Hons in Medieval and Modern History from the University of Birmingham.
