Nico Fournier

Group Volunteer Support Specialist Groups at Land Search and Rescue New Zealand

Nico Fournier is a highly experienced volcanologist with extensive expertise in emergency management and safety. Currently, Nico serves as a Group Volunteer Support Specialist at Land Search and Rescue New Zealand and is a member of the New Zealand Emergency Management Assistance Team (NZEMAT). In addition, Nico holds the position of medic and instructor at Peak Safety. With a career spanning over a decade at GNS Science, Nico has advanced through various roles, including Senior Volcanologist, Team Leader in Volcanology, and Head of Department. Previous experience includes a research fellowship at the Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies and directorship at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. Nico earned a PhD in Volcanology and Geophysics from The Open University and holds multiple degrees in Earth Sciences from Université Blaise Pascal.
