Virgie Fields, MS, CPH, CIC has a wealth of experience in public health and epidemiology. From 2010 to 2012, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the VCU Center on Health Disparities. In 2012, they participated in the Summer Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Virgie was also a Virginia Governor's School for Medicine and the Health Sciences Program Liaison at VCU Division for Health Sciences Diversity in 2013 and a Research Trainee at the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics - CCDD in 2013. In 2014, they were a Health Intern at the Melrose Health Department and an Office of Diversity and Inclusion Student Ambassador at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Virgie also participated in the Harvard-Brazil Collaborative Public Health Field Course, which was offered by Harvard, the University of São Paulo Medical School, and the Brazil Studies Program at Harvard's Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies. From 2015 to 2017, they were a CDC/CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellow at the Arkansas Department of Health. From 2017 to 2022, they worked as a Healthcare-Associated Infections Epidemiologist at the Virginia Department of Health, where they were responsible for the statewide collection, monitoring, analysis, and distribution of HAI surveillance data. Virgie also monitored HAI data for quality and trends, analyzed data, and prepared reports. In 2022, they began their current role as a Public Health Analyst at Lantana Consulting Group.
Virgie Fields, MS, CPH, CIC has a comprehensive educational background. Virgie obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2013. Following that, they earned a Master of Science (MS) in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2015. In 2012, they obtained a certificate in Health in Numbers: Quantitative Methods in Clinical & Public Health Research from edX. In 2017, they obtained certification in Public Health (CPH) from the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE). Finally, in 2019, they obtained certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the CBIC (Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.).
