Lanxess
Matthias Zachert was born in Bonn in 1967. After training as an industrial clerk at Mercedes-Benz AG, he studied business administration with a focus on finance and international management from 1990 to 1995 and completed his studies with a degree in business administration.
From 1999 to 2002 Matthias Zachert was Chief Financial Officer of the International Region of Aventis Pharma AG in Paris, which was created from the merger of Hoechst Marion Roussel (HMR) and Rhône-Poulenc Rorer. Before the merger to form Aventis, he held various management positions in the pharmaceuticals division of Hoechst AG. From 2002 he worked as CFO of Kamps AG in the restructuring of the company.
From 2004 to 2011, Zachert was CFO of LANXESS AG, where he played a key role in setting up the global finance organization, restructuring the portfolio and realigning the company that was spun off from the Bayer Group.
In June 2011 he became a member of the Executive Board and Chief Financial Officer of Merck KGaA.
Matthias Zachert has been CEO of LANXESS AG since April 1, 2014.
Zachert is married and has four children.

It specializes in the development, manufacturing and marketing of chemical intermediates, additives, specialty chemicals and plastics. Its business activities are divided into four segments: Specialty Additives, responsible for manufacture of additives for the rubber and paint industries, among others; Advanced Intermediates, focused on the development of intermediates for the agricultural, plastics, chemicals, consumer goods, construction, tire and automotive industries, among others; Performance Chemicals, which offers material protection products, inorganic pigments, finishing agents for the leather industry and resins for water treatment, among others, and Engineering Materials, which produces technical plastics, glass fibers, fiber composites and elastomers on a urethane basis for application in the automotive, electronics and electrical engineering industries.
