Lead Scientist, High Throughput Strain Engineering at LanzaTech

Jeffrey Vieregg has a diverse work experience in the field of biotechnology and protein engineering. Jeffrey worked as a Lead Scientist at LanzaTech since 2022, focusing on high throughput strain engineering. Before that, they were an Advisor at Portal Innovations, LLC from 2021 to 2023, serving on the Investment Advisory Committee. From 2019 to 2021, Vieregg was the Head of Laboratory at Evozyne, LLC, a protein engineering firm that they helped start. At the University of Chicago, they worked as a Senior Research Scientist from 2013 to 2020, focusing on polyelectrolyte behavior and biomolecular phase separations. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology from 2008 to 2013, where they developed sensors and regulators of gene expression. Vieregg also worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley from 2001 to 2007, conducting research in the Physics Department.

Jeffrey Vieregg earned a B.S. degree in Humanities and Science (Music) and a B.S. degree in Physics with Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997-2001. Jeffrey continued their education at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from 2001 to 2007.
