Julie Barrera, M.A., currently serves as the Director of Public Relations and Development at LARC Lansing since February 2024. Prior to this role, Julie worked as a Development Associate at Hyde Park Day School from August 2021 to February 2024, and briefly held the position of VP of Marketing and Sales at White Oak Home Care from October 2021 to March 2022. Julie's earlier experience includes roles as Marketing and Finance Coordinator at Munster Distinctive Dentistry (November 2018 - August 2021), Recruitment and Enrollment Specialist at Calumet College of Saint Joseph (October 2017 - November 2018), and various positions at Purdue University Northwest, including Limited Term Lecturer and Graduate Teaching Assistant from August 2014 to December 2017. Julie began a career in content management as Lead Copy Writer and Content Manager at SMDG, LLC from April 2015 to November 2017. Julie holds both a Master’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Organizational Communication, respectively, from Purdue University Northwest.

LARC Lansing
LARC is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), community-service organization that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring they can live a quality and engaging life by participating as contributing members of their community. Originally formed in 1956, as a school for children with developmental disabilities (The Lansing School of Special Education), LARC has grown to provide services and supports to approximately 100 individuals across the Chicagoland Area. Supports include service facilitation, community day services, choice-driven classroom & recreational activities, job training & placement, and community-integrated living arrangements for 44 individuals in single-family group homes throughout the community. LARC's mission is to pave pathways through individualized supports and services so people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can experience a self-directed lifestyle. We envision an inclusive society that embraces the individuality of each person with intellectual and developmental disabilities. LARC has part-time employment opportunities supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in Lansing, IL. Employees provide support and supervision in a group setting and provide daily living supports and community activities with a person-centered approach. Employees utilize agency vehicles and must have a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance. Additional requirements include a high school diploma or GED, must be 18 years of age or older and must pass a background check. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus. Shifts are primarily afternoons, midnights, and weekends but some daytime hours are available.
