Certified Instructor at League of American Bicyclists

Derrick WASHINGTON currently serves as a Buyer at Newark Sport Center, a nonprofit community sport center where responsibilities include overseeing a full-service bicycle repair shop and facilitating community activities. As a Certified Instructor for the League of American Bicyclists since April 2012, Derrick specializes in teaching Smart Cycling, Bicycle Safety, and Road Riding Safety. Prior experience includes program support at the National Winter Activity Center, custom boot fitting and equipment specialization at McAfee Ski and Snowboard, and multiple roles at Heino's Ski & Cycle, including ski boot fitting and buying for winter sports and bicycles. Derrick's earlier career involved significant contributions as a Senior Lab Technician/Scientist at Roche Molecular Systems, focusing on R&D and production of diagnostic products, and as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy, providing laboratory services and medical support. Derrick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Biological Sciences from Roger Williams University and additional training as a Commercial Saturation Diver from the Professional Diving School of New York.
