Iain Wallace has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of technology and research. Iain began their career as a Research Scientist at BAE Systems, where they focused on autonomous systems. Iain then worked as a Nuffield Foundation Bursar at Heriot-Watt University, conducting research on a new functional language. After that, they served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Edinburgh while pursuing their Ph.D. Iain then joined Heriot-Watt University as a Research Associate, focusing on long-term interactions with intelligent companions. Iain later transitioned to SCISYS PLC, where they worked as an Autonomy and Robotics Analyst, developing autonomous capabilities for various applications.

In 2017, Iain joined Rovco as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), leading the development and application of 3D and AI computer vision techniques for subsea inspections. Iain subsequently became the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at Rovco, focusing on technology innovation and R&D.

In 2021, they served as the Interim Chief Technology Officer at DeGould, working on AI-led products for automotive inspection and imaging. Iain then joined Animal Dynamics Limited as the Chief Engineer Autonomy, before moving on to their current role as the Director of Machine Learning and Tracking Research at Ultraleap. In this position, they lead the hand tracking research group, focusing on enabling new interactions in augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, and other digital environments. Their responsibilities include delivering ML models, supporting new devices, and overseeing areas such as ML, MLOps, Data, Simulation, and prototyping.

In addition to their professional roles, Iain is also known for their work as a co-host on the Pincount Podcast, which they have been involved with since 2016.

Iain Wallace completed their Ph.D. in Informatics (Artificial Intelligence) from The University of Edinburgh between 2006 and 2010. Prior to that, they pursued their MEng degree in Computer Systems & Software Engineering at the University of York from 2001 to 2006.
