Dr. Sola Aoun Bahous was appointed Interim Dean of the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine on October 1, 2020.
Dr. Aoun Bahous joined the school of medicine in 2008 as a founding member, where she participated in developing the curriculum for the Nephrology Module and the Pharmacology Discipline. She moved her clinical practice to LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital in 2011 and was appointed Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs, tasked with building the clinical curriculum and launching the clinical years (Med III and Med IV years) of the MD program. In September 2019, she rose to the rank of Associate Dean for Medical Education, in charge of the undergraduate medical education program.
Dr. Aoun Bahous holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from Pierre and Marie Curie Paris VI University in France. She is a strong education professional with a recently acquired master’s degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and has significant experience in accreditation and strategic planning at both the university and school levels.
An educator and nephrologist with expertise in the evaluation and management of hypertension, Dr. Aoun Bahous has been involved in several clinical studies and authored around 40 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She has secured several research grants and reviewed for prestigious granting agencies. She sits on the Editorial Board of Seminars in Dialysis and serves as Academic Editor of the Medicine journal.
Dr. Aoun Bahous is a member of several prestigious societies in Nephrology and Medical Education such as the American Society of Nephrology, the European Renal Association, the International Society of Nephrology, the Association for Medical Education in Europe, and the Lebanese Society of Nephrology and Hypertension, among others.
