Tony G. Zreik

VP, Health Affairs at LEBANESE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

Dr. Tony G. Zreik was appointed Vice President for Health Affairs at LAU in October 2021. He will be responsible for the overall healthcare affairs and businesses of the university in alignment with the LAU values of patient-centered care, respect, compassion, integrity and accountability.

He will also assist the President in leading an integrated academic health system (LAU Health System) across the university and its medical centers, develop and implement strategies to position LAU as a regional healthcare leader, and instill a culture of service excellence and highest clinical competence across the institution.

Dr. Zreik first joined LAU in 2008 as Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs and member of the founding team entrusted with the establishment of the Gilbert & Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine.

In October 2010, Dr. Zreik was promoted to the rank of full Professor, and appointed Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He also served as the Chief Medical Officer from 2009 to 2013 of the newly acquired University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital – currently the LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital.

More recently, in 2017, he was appointed Assistant Dean for Business Development at the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine.

Dr. Zreik obtained his MD degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1986 after receiving his BS degree with distinction from the same institution. Subsequently, he completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital, CT, USA.

He additionally completed two fellowship-training programs in Reproductive Biology as well as in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, both at Yale University School of Medicine.

In 1994, Dr. Zreik was appointed as Instructor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in 1996.

Upon his return to Lebanon in 1999, Dr. Zreik joined the faculty at Saint Georges Hospital in Beirut and the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at Balamand University as an Associate Professor, where he was the founding Director of the Saint Georges Hospital Fertility Center.

He was subsequently recruited by AUB as an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of the OB/GYN residency program in 2003. In 2014, he obtained an EMBA from the École Supérieure des Affaires (ESA), associated with the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de Paris.

Dr. Zreik is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has written more than 100 scientific papers, abstracts, and book chapters, and is an ad hoc reviewer for many international scientific journals. His primary research interests include endometriosis and basic and clinical research in fertility, assisted reproductive technologies, and fertility treatments and risk of cancer.

He is also the recipient of multiple prestigious academic honors and awards, most notably: the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) excellence in laparoscopy, the Berlex Foundation Resident Education Award, and the Yale Irving Friedman Clinical Excellence Award.
