McKina Bales DesRoches has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. McKina started their career in 2007 as a General Help at Downey's Farm Market and Winery, where they were involved in various tasks. In 2008, they worked as a Jewelry and Cosmetics specialist and cashier at Zellers.

In 2012, McKina worked as a Housekeeper at Walt Disney World for a few months. McKina then interned at Amanda-Lina's Sposa Boutique in 2013, where they were responsible for scheduling appointments, recording and processing orders, and managing phone calls.

From 2014 to 2017, they worked as a Sales Associate at SexyPlus Clothing and also interned at Rosa Martins Agency. In 2017, they were a Student Intern at APTUS Treatment Centre.

McKina's experience in the sports industry includes working as a Team Lead - Sales Associate at Toronto Blue Jays from 2017 to 2018. McKina then transitioned into the legal field, working as a Client Service Representative at North Peel and Dufferin Community Legal Services from 2018 to 2019. Currently, they are employed at Legal Aid Ontario, where they started as a Support Worker in 2019 and later advanced to the role of a Legal Aid Worker in 2021.

McKina Bales DesRoches has a diverse education history spanning multiple institutions and fields of study. McKina began their post-secondary education in 2006 at Heart Lake Secondary School, where they focused on a general curriculum without pursuing a specific degree or field of study. After completing their secondary education in 2010, they went on to attend Wilfrid Laurier University for two years. During this time, they studied English and Film Studies but did not obtain a degree.

In 2012, McKina transferred to Humber College and pursued an Advanced Diploma in Fashion Arts, which they completed in 2014. McKina then decided to further their education and enrolled at Humber College again, undertaking a Social Service Worker program focused on Social Work. McKina successfully obtained their degree in Social Work in 2018.

In addition to their formal education, McKina Bales DesRoches has also pursued additional certifications. In August 2021, they obtained a certification in Indigenous Canada from the University of Alberta.
