Margaret Thomas started their work experience in 1996 as an Auditor at Schweitzer, Rubin, Karon & Bremer (CBIZ), where they worked until 1999. In 1999, they joined Lerner Publishing Group as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President. In 2010, Margaret took on the role of Treasurer at both the Midtown Greenway Coalition and Friends of the Hennepin County Library. Margaret held these positions until 2015 and 2013 respectively.

Margaret Thomas completed their Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB) in International Business from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management between 1980 and 1984. Margaret then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas, graduating between 1993 and 1995. In 1997, Margaret obtained the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in Minnesota. In 2004, they became a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) through the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. Margaret also earned various certificates, including an IT Business Analyst certificate from the University of Minnesota in 2010 and a Web Design and Development certificate from Minneapolis Community Technical College in the same year. Margaret is currently working towards becoming an Accredited Business Valuator through the AICPA, with pending project experience.
