Dr. Kenny Corscadden joined Lethbridge College in 2017, first as Dean of the Centre for Technology, Environment and Design (CTED) and then as Associate Vice President – Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE) in 2018. He was named Vice President – Research and Partnerships in January 2022.
During his time with CTED, Corscadden built key industry partnerships, particularly in the agriculture sector, and he undertook an inventory of the college’s research activities. During his time with CARIE, the centre grew exponentially, expanding from eight full time staff in 2018 to more than 50 in 2021, increasing external research funding from $1.5 million in 2018 to $6.8 million in 2021, and increasing student researchers employed by the college from six in 2018 to 20 in 2021.
Before joining Lethbridge College, Corscadden held a number of executive positions in engineering companies in the United Kingdom and Canada, including running a high technology start up. He transitioned to academia as an instructor and assistant professor at Acadia University in 2007. He moved to Dalhousie University in 2009 where he served as an industry research chair in farm energy, department chair for engineering and associate dean – Research and Graduate Studies before moving to join Lethbridge College. Corscadden is a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers Nova Scotia and Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology in the U.K.
Corscadden is an experienced multi-disciplinary researcher with a reputation for research achievement and excellence across a range of engineering, applied science and socio-economic projects. His research program has a primary focus on renewable and green technology, but it also extends to include multi-disciplinary collaboration in the areas of engineering, science, social science and policy. His scholarly research has been published in more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, including a white paper with the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy.
Corscadden’s educational credentials all come from universities in the United Kingdom. They include a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Bolton, a Master of Science – Engineering from the University of Manchester, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – Control Systems from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, and a Master of Business Administration – Technology Transfer from the University of Wales.
