Gozde Durmus

Scientific Founder at LevitasBio

Gozde Durmus is the scientific founder of LevitasBio, a company that focuses on developing nanomaterials and nano-therapeutics. Gozde has a PhD from Brown University and was a Fulbright Scholar at Boston University. Prior to their current position, they were an Entrepreneurial Fellow at Slater Technology Fund and a PhD student at Brown University.

At Brown University, Gozde integrated nanotechnology and metabolic stimulation to create various nanomaterials and nano-therapeutics designs. Gozde also developed new magnetic nanoparticles that outperform conventional antibiotics used in the clinic. In addition, they took an unconventional approach and showed the importance of extracellular metabolic microenvironment for nano-inspired biosystems. Furthermore, they created inexpensive methods to fabricate nanostructured medical devices and supervised a master’s student and an undergraduate team.

During their time as a Fulbright Scholar at Boston University, they researched ways to improve the delivery of drugs across cell membranes.

Gozde Durmus earned their BS in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Middle East Technical University (METU) before coming to the US for their graduate studies. Gozde first completed their MS in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University before moving on to earn their PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University. Currently, they are a Stanford Ignite Fellow at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
