George Burke

George Burke serves as the Communications Director for Congressman Gerry Connolly in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 2009 and has been the Chair of the 11th Congressional District Committee for the Democratic Party of Virginia since 2005. With a diverse background in media and public relations, George has also worked as a consultant at Strategic Communications from 2004 to 2008, and previously held the position of Assistant to the General President for Media and Communications at the International Association of Fire Fighters from 1989 to 2004. Earlier experience includes serving as Communications Director and Press Secretary in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989, and as a reporter and editor at daily newspapers from 1973 to 1979. Additionally, George has been a Professional Ski Instructor, Alpine Certified, at Liberty Mountain since 1984. George holds a degree from the University of New Hampshire.
