John Paul has diverse work experience in the field of licensing and intellectual property. John served as the President of the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) starting in 2021. Prior to that, they were a Board Member at LESI since 2014. John also worked as a Partner at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP since 1984. John held various roles at the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc., including Counsel to the Board from 2012 to 2014 and Vice President and Trustee from 2007 to 2012. Additionally, John served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Catholic University Columbus School of Law from 1999 to 2003 and started their career as a Patent Examiner at USPTO from 1980 to 1981.

John Paul attended Brown University from 1972 to 1976, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (AB) degree in Engineering. John then went on to attend Case Western Reserve University School of Law from 1976 to 1979, obtaining a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law.

Licensing Executives Society International (LESI)

The Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) is an association of 32 national and regional Member Societies comprised of men and women who have an interest in the transfer of technology, or licensing of intellectual property rights - from technical know how and patented inventions to software, copyright and trademarks. It is strictlynon-political and is free to grow by the creation of member societies throughout the world irrespective of politics or the state of technology development. LES International has a constitution and by-laws.First and foremost, LESI consists of the members of its national and regional Member Societies. The Member Societies, in turn, are the “shareholders” of LESI. LESI is governed by a Board of Directors who exercise its executive functions. The Board of Directors is elected by the International Board of Delegates who are themselves appointed by the Member Societies. Finally, LESI has various Management Committees as well as Industry, Professional and regional Committees.
