Bruno Vieira has a long and varied work experience. In 2010, they worked as a Bioinformatician for CoBiG2, where they analysed high throughput sequencing data and worked on three papers. In 2012, they were the Full Stack Web Developer for the XIV Congress of the European Society for Evolutionary Biology. In 2014, they began their PhD at Queen Mary, University of London, where they researched bioinformatics and population genomics using high throughput sequencing data. Bruno also worked as Community Manager and Full Stack Web Developer for Bionode. In 2016, they were a Science Fellow for Mozilla, where they organized hackathons, workshops, and worked on Bionode.io. In 2018, they were a Software Developer for Code for Science and Society, where they worked on a project to integrate Nix into a Docker image builder for researchers. Bruno also worked as a Bioinformatics Scientist for Repositive, where they worked mostly on reproducible data analysis pipelines with Nix and Docker. In 2019, they were Co-Chief Technology Officer for Resurgo Genetics. Currently, they are a Senior Backend Developer for Lifebit.

Bruno Vieira obtained a Licentiate degree in Cell Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Lisbon between 2004 and 2007. Bruno then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Human Biology and Environment from the same university between 2007 and 2009. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioinformatics from Queen Mary University of London between 2013 and 2018.
