Weifeng Zhang

Weifeng Zhang has a diverse work experience in the fields of technology and computer science. Weifeng is currently the Chief Architect & VP of Software at Lightelligence, a position they started in October 2022. Previously, they worked as the Tech Chair of the AI Co-Design workgroup at the Open Compute Project Foundation, where they focused on AI hardware software co-designs and futuristic AI architectures.

Before that, Weifeng Zhang served on the Board of Directors at MLCommons starting in April 2020 until October 2022. At Alibaba Group, they held the position of Sr. Director and Chief Scientist of Heterogeneous Computing, where they built a scalable heterogeneous computing infrastructure for machine learning, HPC, and trusted computing applications.

Prior to their role at Alibaba Group, Weifeng Zhang worked at Qualcomm, where they held various positions including Director of Engineering and Lead of GPU/GPGPU Compilation & Optimization, Sr. Staff Engineer / Manager, Tech Leader of Graphics/GPGPU Compiler, and Staff Engineer, Tech Leader in Graphics/GPU Compiler. During their time at Qualcomm, they led teams in designing and developing high-performance compilers for their Adreno GPUs.

Weifeng Zhang also had a stint as a Visiting Professor at the University of California San Diego, teaching a course on Compiler Construction for upper division undergraduates.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Staff Software Engineer at ARM, Inc, designing and developing microprocessor architecture models, and as a Compiler Software Developer at Microsoft.

Weifeng Zhang holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, which was attained from UC San Diego between the years 2002 and 2006. Prior to this, they earned a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Wuhan University.
