John Zyskind

VP of Engineering at Lightwave Logic

Dr. Zyskind joined Lightwave Logic in 2022 as Vice President of Engineering. Dr. Zyskind is an engineering manager with broad experience in optical communications and related technologies. Prior to joining Lighwave Logic, Dr. Zyskind was the Vice President of Engineering, Quality and Reliability at Skorpios Technologies, where, among other projects, he led the due diligence and selection of the company’s foundry partners for fabrication of its Silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and the qualification and reliability engineering of the company’s Silicon photonic PICs. Prior to Skorpios, Dr. Zyskind served in engineering leadership positions at Bell Laboratories where his seminal work on the development of Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers and Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) optical communication systems helped to usher in the WDM revolution and at Sycamore Networks, where he led development of high capacity, ultra-long haul WDM networks. Following Sycamore Networks, Dr. Zyskind led engineering teams at Optovia (the assets of which were later acquired by JDSU) where he developed WDM line systems with distributed hybrid amplification and Mintera (later acquired by Oclaro) where he led development of high capacity, advanced modulation format transceivers. In recognition of his contributions to the development of optical amplifiers and high capacity WDM systems Dr. Zyskind was elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, appointed Bell Laboratories Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and, along with his team, received the Bell Labs President’s Award. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology.
