Sean Utan has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Sean started as a Student Ambassador at Diablo Valley College in 2016. In 2015, they led a team in an engineering project at Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School.
Sean then worked as a Chemistry Lab Assistant and Biology Tutor at Diablo Valley College from 2017 to 2018. In these roles, they assisted in securing and distributing lab supplies, created chemical samples and buffer solutions, and tutored students in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
In 2018, Sean gained research experience as an Undergraduate Researcher at Berkeley Lab, specifically at the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis.
In 2019, Sean took on multiple roles at different companies. Sean worked as a Process Development Researcher at Joint BioEnergy Institute, where they focused on process development. Sean also served as an Engineering Consultant at Chec Consulting, providing engineering consulting services.
During this time, they were a member of UC Berkeley Biofuels Technology Club, specifically on the Scale Up Team, where they contributed to scale-up projects.
In 2019, Sean also worked as a Chemical Engineering Intern at Genecis Bioindustries Inc., gaining experience in the field.
In 2020, Sean worked as a Project Engineer at Takachar, where they were involved in project management.
Currently, Sean is working as a Process Engineer at Lilac Solutions, Inc.
Sean Utan received their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley from 2018 to 2020. Prior to attending UC Berkeley, they attended Diablo Valley College from 2016 to 2018, where they focused on Chemical Engineering. Their earlier education was completed at Gandhi Memorial International School from 2005 to 2015, where they studied in the Science Stream. In addition to their formal education, Sean obtained a Certificate in Entrepreneurship & Technology from UC Berkeley College of Engineering in June 2020.
