Alayne Oriol Cotterill is a conservation professional with extensive experience in wildlife management and community-based solutions for human-wildlife coexistence. As Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Lion Landscapes since January 2020, Alayne focuses on integrating local knowledge with scientific research to conserve large carnivores. Previously, Alayne served as Executive Director of Lion Landscapes (mark 1) and Research Director at Ewaso Lions, emphasizing the capacity building and management of lion populations in Africa. Alayne's academic background includes a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, where research centered on the behavioral ecology of lions in relation to human impact. Additional experience includes roles at the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, Living With Lions, and National Geographic Expeditions, further underscoring a commitment to wildlife conservation and education.

Lion Landscapes'​ mission is ensuring ecosystems to support large carnivores. Our vision is a world where science and technology work in partnership with local cultural values to enable people to coexist with viable populations of large carnivores. Our approach is collaborative and adaptive so we can strengthen current conservation efforts to secure important landscapes for viable populations of large carnivores.
