Sathiyaraj Kandhasamy, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of energy research and engineering. Sathiyaraj started their career as a Research Assistant at Central Electrochemical Research Institute, where they gained experience in synthesizing nanostructured cathodes for Li-ion batteries. Sathiyaraj then worked as a Research Trainee at Murdoch University, focusing on lithium transition metal phosphate cathodes for Li-ion batteries.
Sathiyaraj went on to work as a Research Assistant at Periyar Maniammai University, where they specialized in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for patterning SiO2 dots on Si substrates for biochips. Sathiyaraj developed a low-cost set-up that mimicked the work of AFM and conducted AFM surface analysis on various samples.
Moving forward, Sathiyaraj worked as an Assistant Professor and later as a Senior Lecturer at CARE School of Engineering, where they taught materials science and engineering. Sathiyaraj supervised student teams for research projects and organized scientific events and student team-building contests.
Sathiyaraj further advanced their career by taking on roles at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). As a Doctoral Researcher, they focused on molten carbonate thermo-electrochemical cells for industrial waste heat recovery. Sathiyaraj also worked as a Researcher, exploring the generation of useful energy from CO2-gas flow friction using a triboelectric device.
Sathiyaraj then joined DIFFER - Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research as a Postdoctoral Researcher and later as a Guest Researcher. Here, they specialized in sodium-sulfur batteries and focused on optimizing cell configuration design and tuning the properties of organic solvent solvated sulfur catholyte.
Currently, Sathiyaraj is working at LionVolt B.V. as a Senior Research Scientist and Team Lead. Sathiyaraj is leading a multidisciplinary team in developing thin film/3D Lithium metal anodes for 3D solid-state batteries. Sathiyaraj is responsible for initiating, designing, executing, and validating new methods and processes. Sathiyaraj also conducts electrochemical and physical analysis of metallic lithium anodes and reviews authoritative publications and patents to create valuable intellectual property.
Throughout their career, Sathiyaraj has demonstrated expertise in various areas of energy research, including battery technologies, solid-state electrolytes, and advanced materials. Sathiyaraj'swork experience highlights their ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, their analytical skills, and their contributions to scientific research and development.
Sathiyaraj Kandhasamy, PhD began their education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics from Thanthai Hans Roever College from 2003 to 2006. Sathiyaraj then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Physics at Bishop Heber College, completing it from 2006 to 2008. Sathiyaraj furthered their education with a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in Nanotechnology at Periyar Maniammai University between 2008 and 2010. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Materials Science and Engineering (Electrochemistry) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) from 2015 to 2018.
