James Clanchy is an experienced arbitrator and legal professional, currently serving as a full-time arbitrator in independent practice since April 2022 and as an associate member of Six Pump Court Chambers since October 2019. Clanchy co-edits the Lloyd’s Maritime Law Newsletter focusing on arbitration and has held various significant roles, including Hon Secretary at the LMAA and Professional Support Lawyer for LexisNexis UK. Previous positions include Senior Associate at Stephenson Harwood LLP, Senior Legal Advisor at Thomas Miller, Registrar and Deputy Director General at the London Court of International Arbitration, and Senior Associate at Holman Fenwick Willan LLP. Clanchy began legal training at Withers LLP, where admission as a solicitor occurred in 1990, along with admission to the Paris Bar in 1994. Educational qualifications include a MA in Classics and French from St Anne’s College, University of Oxford, and legal studies at City of London Polytechnic.
