Evert Smit has a diverse and extensive work experience in the adhesive industry. Evert began their career as a Development Chemist at National Starch & Chemical/Unilever, where they developed top-selling solvent acrylic PSA technologies and established controls for the pharma business. Evert then moved on to roles such as Supervisor PSA and Technical Manager at National Starch & Chemical/Unilever/ICI and National Adhesives, where they further honed their expertise in adhesives.

In 1995, Evert joined Henkel as a Technical Service Manager PSA EMEA, where they successfully integrated two technical teams and began the process of moving one team to a new site. Evert later joined Arizona Chemical as a Technical Leader/Technical Manager Inks & Adhesives, where they led R&D, technical service, and plant support for adhesives in EMEA and Asia.

Evert also had significant roles at Lohmann GmbH & Co. KG, serving as Manager PSA Technology and later as Head of Research & Development (Technical Products). In these roles, they focused on scouting for new and disruptive ideas, technologies, and business models while also leading the research and product development of technical products such as adhesive tapes and bonding solutions.

In addition to their industry experience, Evert also served as President of Afera, The European adhesive tape network, where they led the organization in promoting and advancing the adhesive tape industry in Europe.

Evert Smit pursued their education in a chronological manner, starting with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Groningen, which they obtained between 1979 and 1982. Following this, they enrolled at Radboud University, where they completed their Drs. (MSC hon) degree in Chemistry, spanning from 1982 to 1987. Lastly, they further enhanced their knowledge and expertise by attending the University of Twente, where they earned a Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry & Technology from 1987 to 1992.
