Patrick Bain

President & CEO, The Long & Foster Companies at Long & Foster Companies

Patrick Bain is president of Long & Foster Insurance, the insurance arm of The Long & Foster Companies. He joined Long & Foster in May 2010. In addition to the insurance business, he also oversees Long & Foster’s home warranty and Home Service Connections businesses.

Bain’s experience in the insurance and financial services industry spans more than 25 years. Prior to joining Long & Foster, he was vice-president and general manager for Howard Hanna Insurance Services headquartered in Pittsburgh with operations throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia. Under his leadership, Howard Hanna’s insurance and home warranty businesses grew dramatically and were recognized nationally by the insurance and real estate industries. During Bain’s tenure, Howard Hanna Insurance was ranked the No. 1 independent real-estate-related insurance and home warranty company for 2009 and 2010 by REAL Trends, an industry ranking service.

In 1998, Bain founded and led sales and marketing efforts for InsRateDirect.com, an Internet startup specializing in home and auto insurance lead generation and distribution. He was also the managing partner at The McDonnell Bain Group, an independent insurance agency in the Baltimore, Md., metropolitan area. McDonnell Bain was awarded Maryland's New Agency of the Year in 1999 by Erie Insurance Group. Bain negotiated the successful sale of both companies to larger insurance entities in 2002.

Bain was one of founding employees at an AT&T Capital Corporation startup in the transportation leasing business in 1990. Over the next eight years, he held several leadership positions in national sales, risk management and operations in the consumer and commercial-fleet automotive leasing unit of AT&T Automotive Services in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Bain is a member of the advisory boards of Safeco and Encompass Insurance. He is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. He currently lives in Northern Virginia.
