Ming Jin has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of software engineering and network security. They started their career in 1996 as a Software Architect at the Chinese National Research Center of Intelligent Computer, where they researched internet technology and designed system integration software. In this role, they implemented Radius authentication software on Linux and fixed a bug within the Linux kernel.
They then moved on to Symantec Inc. in 1999, where they worked as a Senior Software Engineer. Here, they developed, modified, and maintained Symantec Ghost. They implemented the Ghost Migration feature, enabling seamless migration of user profiles and personal settings between different PCs over a network. They also reverse-engineered and developed remote thread injection to disable Windows system file protection during package applying.
In 2003, Ming Jin joined eEye Digital Security as a Senior Software Engineer. Their major contribution was as a developer of Blink, an enterprise software for desktop security. They were responsible for the development of all three kernel drivers, as well as GUI, Rule Manager, and Auto-Updater modules. They optimized the "Rule Manager" module, reducing its memory usage from 60MB to 6MB.
From 2012 to 2022, they worked at BlackBerry (Cylance) as an Architect. Here, they developed a unified kernel filter driver framework for Windows, OSX, and Linux, allowing code to be written once and applied to all platforms. Their work involved implementing an event-driven layered architecture and a rich utility set to facilitate the implementation of various filters.
In 2002, they also took on the role of Owner at Net-Peeker, a network toolkit with numerous paid customers. Some of its features include network monitoring and auditing, personal firewall, and packet capture.
Most recently, in 2022, Ming Jin joined Lookout as a Staff Security Engineer.
Ming Jin obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Tianjin University, China, from 1989 to 1993. Following that, from 1993 to 1996, Ming Jin pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from BUAA (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics), China.
