Los Alamos National Laboratory
James Ahrens is the Director of the Information Science and Technology Institute at Los Alamos National Laboratory, a position held since 1996, where oversight includes fostering research, specialized recruitment, and strategy development within the IS&T Pillar. Additionally, Ahrens serves as the Data and Visualization Project Lead for the Department of Energy's Exascale Computing Project, managing various projects focused on advanced data capabilities for exascale platforms. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior Scientist and Data Science at Scale Team Leader at the University of Washington from 1989 to 1996, and early work as a Graduate Student and Intern at Thinking Machines Corporation. Ahrens holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Washington and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
