William Press

Laboratory Senior Fellow, Senior Fellow Emeritus at Los Alamos National Laboratory

William Press is a distinguished academic and leader in the fields of computer science and integrative biology, currently serving as a Professor at The University of Texas at Austin since 2007. Press holds significant positions such as Treasurer of the National Academy of Sciences and Board Member of the Simons Foundation. With a long-standing tenure at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Press is recognized as a Laboratory Senior Fellow and formerly held the role of Deputy Laboratory Director for Science and Technology. Additionally, Press contributed to the Institute for Defense Analyses as a Trustee and served as Vice Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology from 2009 to 2017. Press’s involvement with the American Association for the Advancement of Science included roles as President-Elect and President from 2011 to 2014. Following an academic career at Harvard University, Princeton University, and Caltech, Press earned a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Caltech and an A.B. in Physics from Harvard University.
