Ashkan Moazzez

Ashkan Moazzez, MD, MPH, FACS, CHCQM has a diverse work experience spanning various prestigious institutions. Ashkan currently holds the position of Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where they have been working since 2013. Ashkan has also served as the Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the same institution. In addition, they have worked as an Attending Surgeon at the Harbor-UCLA Department of Surgery since 2013.

Dr. Moazzez has held several leadership roles at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, including Medical Director of Utilization Management, Clinical Documentation Improvement Champion, and Physician Advisor in the Utilization Review Department.

Ashkan has also contributed to the field of surgery through their role as Section Editor for Hernia: The World Journal of Hernia and Abdominal Wall Surgery, and as an Editorial Board Member for the same publication. Furthermore, they have served as a Subject Matter Expert in Clinical Informatics at the Los Angeles County Health Services.

Dr. Moazzez has held a leadership position as Chief of Division of General and Bariatric Surgery at Harbor UCLA Department of Surgery. Ashkan has also held the position of Chief of Ambulatory Surgery Service and Chair of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee at H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Center.

Earlier in their career, they worked as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Southern California.

Ashkan Moazzez, MD, MPH, FACS, CHCQM completed their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences from 1990 to 1998. Ashkan then pursued a Laparoscopic/Bariatric Fellowship at the University of Southern California from 2007 to 2008. In 2011 to 2013, they attended UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and obtained an Executive Master of Public Health (EMPH) with a specialization in Health Policy and Management. In 2019, Dr. Moazzez completed the Core Body of Knowledge Course at the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. (ABQAURP). Ashkan also holds certifications as a Diplomate from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQUARP) and the American Board of Surgery.
