Mike Tsao

As Acting Deputy Fire Chief, Mike Tsao oversees the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Administrative Services Bureau which includes the Financial Management, Human Resources, Information Management, and Materials Management Divisions, providing critical support services to all operations.

Chief Tsao joined the Department in April 2016, serving as the Materials Management Division Manager. During his tenure within the Department, he streamlined the procurement and warehouse process by eliminating unnecessary procedures, expediting complex purchases with the Internal Services Department, implementing the Amazon ordering process and credit card purchases, and creating a system to better track warehouse requisitions and backorders. In January 2023, Chief Tsao began serving as Acting Deputy Chief, Administrative Services Bureau.

Before joining the Department, Chief Tsao started his County career in October 2000 and worked in various support services positions in the Departments of Public Health, Internal Services, Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, and Mental Health. Chief Tsao received his Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health and Safety from Cal State University, Los Angeles. He recently earned his Certified Purchasing Manager lifetime certification and is a member of the Los Angeles County Asian American Employee Association.

Chief Tsao resides in the County of Los Angeles and enjoys various outdoor sports and activities, including tennis, pickleball, beach volleyball, hiking, biking, and swimming.
