Cindy Chyr

Senior Director, Development & Campaigns at Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Cindy Chyr is the Senior Director of Development & Campaigns at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Cindy has over 10 years of experience in fundraising and development, with a focus on major gifts.

Cindy began their career in fundraising at the International Documentary Association (IDA), where they served as the Director of Development for five years. In this role, they oversaw all aspects of the IDA’s fundraising efforts, including annual giving, corporate giving, foundation support, and special events.

In 2010, Cindy moved to FAME Corporations, where they served as the Fund Development Manager. In this role, they were responsible for all aspects of the organization’s fundraising efforts, including annual giving, corporate giving, foundation support, and special events.

In 2015, Cindy took on the role of Director of Advancement at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). In this role, they oversaw all aspects of SBIFF’s fundraising efforts, including annual giving, corporate giving, foundation support, and special events.

In 2019, Cindy joined The American Film Institute (AFI) as the Director of National Advancement. In this role, they oversaw the AFI’s National Council fundraising efforts, focusing on annual major gifts over $25,000. Cindy also oversaw institutional giving and scholarships on an interim basis as a new Director of Institutional Giving and Scholarships was being hired. This provided their with the opportunity to research and write grants and prepare proposals for some of the largest, most generous foundations both national and local to support AFI film programs and scholarships.

In 2020, Cindy joined the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank as the Senior Director of Development & Campaigns. In this role, they oversee all aspects of the Food Bank’s fundraising efforts, including annual giving, corporate giving, foundation support, and special events.

Cindy Chyr received their Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the City University of New York School of Law in the field of International Women's Human Rights. Cindy also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Women's Studies from Arizona State University.
