Erica Spears is the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning at Louisiana Public Health Institute. Erica has over 14 years of experience in the public health field. Erica began their career as a Grant Writer and Program Manager for the City of New Orleans. After working for the city for two years, Erica became the Assistant Director at Change Happens!, a nonprofit organization that helps people with HIV/AIDS. Erica then attended Texas A&M University where they earned their PhD in Public Health. After graduation, Erica worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Health Ecology and Equity Research. Erica then took a position as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health. Erica is currently adjunct faculty at the University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health and the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning at Louisiana Public Health Institute.

Erica Spears has a postdoctoral research fellowship in population health and social epidemiology at Auburn University. Erica also has a doctoral degree in public health education and promotion from Texas A&M University, where they are also a student affiliate of the Transdisciplinary Center for Health Equity Research. Erica Spears holds a bachelor's degree in mass communication with an emphasis in public relations from Louisiana State University, as well as a master's degree in speech communication with a focus on health communication from the University of Houston.
