Preetam Rao

Preetam Rao has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Preetam started their career as a Software Engineer at Robosoft Technologies, where they developed applications for Mac OS. Preetam then worked at GE Healthcare as a Software Engineer before joining AOL. At AOL, Preetam worked as a Principal Software Engineer and Senior Software Engineer, where they designed and implemented various subsystems of AOL Real Estate and AOL Autos portals. Preetam also implemented a connection pooling middleware in Java, which was widely used by AOL servers.

Preetam then moved on to Yahoo!, where they worked as a Senior Principal Software Engineer. Preetam was one of the architects of the Unified Notifications Platform, used by most of Yahoo! properties. Preetam designed and implemented multiple subsystems of this platform, which is a linearly scalable system serving over 30K events per second.

After their tenure at Yahoo!, Preetam joined Versé Innovation Pvt Ltd as a Senior Architect. Here, they architected and implemented a Real-Time Analytics Pipeline, which ingested over a billion events per day and provided insights over several terabytes of data. Preetam used technologies like Kafka, Storm, Redis, and ELK stack for this project.

Preetam then worked at Vera Security as a Senior Architect, contributing to the development of an enterprise product focused on document and mail security. Preetam also integrated the product with platforms like Box, Dropbox, and GDrive. Additionally, Preetam migrated critical components of a monolithic architecture to microservices.

In 2018, Preetam joined InMobi as a Senior Architect, where they helped with the stability and improvement of the Affiliate network platform. This platform served traffic exceeding 15K requests per second and included a batch analytics pipeline ingesting billions of events daily. Technologies utilized in this role included Kafka, Redis, Cassandra, Vertica, and Spring.

Most recently, Preetam joined Flipkart as a Senior Architect, contributing to seller-facing products at the Flipkart Marketplace organization. Preetam worked on various aspects like seller onboarding, listings management, inventory management, order fulfillment, and seller support, using a wide range of technologies including MySQL, Redis, Kafka, HBase, Elastic Search, Spark, Flink, and more.

Preetam is currently working at Lowe's India as a Principal Engineer, starting in 2023.
