John Berthels

John Berthels has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. John most recently worked at Lunar Energy as a Senior Software Engineering Lead since November 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Interim Technical Director at Detectortesters (No Climb Products) from October 2022 to August 2023, where they successfully delivered cloud subscriptions on time and budget.

From 2018 to 2022, John worked at ecobee as the VP Tech, Cameras, taking overall technical responsibility for the success of ecobee camera products and helping nurture and develop a positive working culture.

John was also the CTO and co-founder of Cocoon, a smart security system, from July to October 2018, and the Technical co-founder from May 2014 to October 2018. At Cocoon, they had overall responsibility for all software aspects of the system, including system design, embedded programming, cloud systems, and mobile applications.

Prior to that, they worked at Trend Micro as an Architect from June 2010 to April 2014, providing technical authority and guidance for various web applications and legacy cloud storage solutions.

John Berthels also has experience at HUMYO.com as a Software Developer and Development Manager from July 2007 to June 2010, overseeing cloud storage software architecture and driving rapid development cycles.

John started their career at Nexor Ltd as a Software Engineer and later became a Senior Consultant from September 1996 to September 2004. John also worked at Small Planet Internet as a Network and Systems Administrator from September 1995 to August 1996, and at Logica as a Consultant from September 1994 to September 1995.

John Berthels attended Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University from 1988 to 1991. John obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics during this time.
