There is one Full-Time contract General Accountant position available starting on September 23, 2024, and ending on October 10, 2025. working 37.5 hours per week.

Your Role:

This position is responsible for the timely processing of financial information and completion of account reconciliations including bank deposits, processing of accounts payable invoices, and assistance with regular financial reporting.

Tasks:

  1. Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

  2. Prepares, processes and posts journal entries to the General Ledger including journal entries to adjust reconciling items and recurring monthly journal entries.

  3. Ensures that accounts payable invoices are properly matched with purchase orders, coded, authorized, and processed on a timely basis through online processing systems. This function includes verifying the adds and extensions on invoices and the existence of applicable commodity taxes.

  4. Liaises with suppliers regarding invoices and payment information as needed.

  5. Ensures an audit trail exists for all cheques processed including appropriately authorized invoices, registers, and cheque registers.

  6. Prepares cash receipts listings for daily deposits.

  7. Prepares invoicing for service departments, including client billings and follow-ups on outstanding accounts receivable.

  8. Responsible for Program contract maintenance and posting all contracts and payments in database.

  9. Assists in the verification and distribution of contracts with appropriate signing authority and responsible for the maintenance of contract files as required.

  10. Assists with reporting and budgeting functions on an ongoing basis and communicates results to funders.

  11. Assists in the preparation of the audit papers on an ongoing basis and provides year end support to financial analysts.

  12. Monitors daily charges and direct deposits to the operating bank accounts. Prepares necessary journal entries to record these transactions supported by appropriate documentation.

  13. Updates and processes monthly fees and submit preauthorized payments (PAP) to the bank on the 1st and 15th working day of each month.

  14. Maintains monthly rent roll report; calculates processing annual rent changes including issuing letters.

  15. Tracks unit deposits for Luther Village on the Park; calculates and issues interest on last month’s rent.

  16. Prepares reconciliations of program funding receipts in accordance with program funding parameters to ensure that all entitles revenue is received as required.

  17. Processes stipend payments for any training allowances and all associated paperwork including remittances for any source deductions and annual T4A preparation and distribution.

  18. Other finance, accounting, control, and duties as assigned.

Your Talents and Experience:

A degree or diploma in bookkeeping or equivalent with three years related experience. Experience and competence in using computer hardware and software (e.g. Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Dynamics GP). Ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents and funders; to take direction; use initiative; be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision. Alignment with the agency’s commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression. Passion and knowledge for antiracism, anti-oppression, and equity when executing all aspects of the role.

When determining rate of pay for external hires, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience currently fall within the band.

  • Note: most new team members will start between the starting salary and the mid-point of the range.

  • Job Band E (hourly wages): Min - $22.93, Mid - $24.64, Max - $27.55
