There is one Full-Time contract Summer Grounds Assistant position available starting on May 05, 2025, and ending on August 29, 2025. working 37.5 hours per week.

Your Role:
Performs outdoor groundskeeping as required for the Village. Supports the facilities team with ensuring the campus remains attractive and competitive in the market. The responsibilities for this position will primarily focus on grounds and therefore vary by season and weather conditions, as well as providing rotating seasonal weekend coverage. Works intentionally from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive perspective to further create a sense of belonging at the Village.

Tasks:
Groundskeeping:

  1. Turf keeping including repairs, reseeding, laying sod, weed control, lawn maintenance and lawn rolling.
  2. Garden maintenance including garden design, planting, weeding, deadheading, edging, mulching, watering and fertilizing.
  3. Planting, transporting and pruning of trees, bushes, hedges and perennials.
  4. Clean-up of grounds including power sweeping of walks and drives and picking up garbage on turf areas.
  5. Snow removal using power equipment as well as hand shoveling. Clearing walks and driveways of ice and salting/deicing as required.
  6. Opening and closing of outdoor water features and minor repairs.
  7. Assists with seasonal decorating of the campus.
  8. Performs safe operation of equipment, including but not limited to trimmers, mowers, vehicles, power washers, leaf shredders/vacuums.
  9. Assists the facilities department with indoor general maintenance as required.
  10. Set-up and take down of tables, chairs and other props for residents, administration, and other meetings.

Other:

  1. Works as part of the Operations service delivery team with a willingness to assist in other service areas when required.
  2. Participates in supervision with the Facilities Manager.
  3. Represents the Agency in the community.
  4. Complies with the policies and procedures of the Agency as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual
  5. Complies with the duties imposed by law or contract and the policies and procedures for performing the job in a safe and healthy manner.
  6. Takes an active role in promoting and protecting personal health and safety and the health and safety of others, both staff and consumers. (Sec.28(1) OHSA)
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Your Talents and Experience:
Interest in landscaping and experience with groundskeeping an asset. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, problem solve and work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate with people and be open to direction. This position is physically demanding and requires working for extended periods in adverse weather conditions. Ability to lift 40 kg unassisted. Weekend work is required on a regularly scheduled basis. Passionate, aware, and willing to learn about antiracism, anti-oppression, and equity.

When determining rate of pay for external hires, a candidate’s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience currently fall within the band. 
•    Note: most new team members will start between the starting salary and the mid-point of the range. 
•    Job Band D (hourly wages): Min - $22.21, Mid - $22.95, Max - $23.75
